An intriguing beginning: a small Canadian town tormented by a serial killer, a hot headed sheriff trying to solve the case, and a mysterious being who somehow seems to cause the misfortune plaguing Saint Ferdinand. The book shows promise early on with a compelling mystery and a lot of character arcs, but quickly loses steam as the characters fall flat, the plot drags on, and you're left scratching your head saying "that's it?" A whole book that reads like it was only meant to warm up for a sequel.
