Book Overview

From the founders of Atlas Obscura.com, the online destination for wonder and curiosity -- with over five million active monthly users -- comes a book like no other, featuring over 600 lushly illustrated entries on wondrous, curious, eccentric and bizarre locales: from the bone museums of Italy to the self-mummified monks of Japan to the Gates of Hell, a 328-foot-wide-hole in the middle of the Turkmenistan desert that has been on fire for 40 years. Engagingly written, scrupiously researched, beautifully designed and endessly fascinating, Atlas Obscura is the pinnacle of armchair travel.

Book is great! But they lied.

Book is great, so please get it! But it said like new, and that is a lie. Terrible edges looks like some water damage, package was not protected at all!

Atlas Obscura from website to book.

Ella Morton (English accent from the Commonwealth, born in New Zealand) at the Wisconsin Book Festival. Her most popular interview was a chat with Cookie Monster on the set of Sesame Street. It started as a website in 2009. There are Obscura societies throughout the U.S. I already own the book, believe it or not, bought it on the clearance shelf of a secondhand book store before it became famous. I watched BookTV on S-SPAN2, which helped bring the book to life. Everything could not be selected for the view, but what was viewed had more information than the book contained. This is a selection of over 700 of the strangest and most curious places in the world. The authors are not only looking at volume 2. They are looking for a new book with more focus on the subject or area.

Fascinating source of the rare and wonderful around the world.

The entire book is well done, with maps and geographical locations for each site in the book. So many places that would be amazing to discover and explore or view. Strongly recommend for anyone who's sense of wonder is intense.
