This book offers a sound mathematics presentation, useful pedagogy, and a superb problem-solving framework. The Second Edition features a greater incorporation of AMATYC and NCTM standards, reflected in an increased emphasis on visualization and graphing, carefully revised problems and exercises, and more data analysis. A six-step problem-solving approach is woven consistently throughout -- 1) Understand; 2) Assign; 3) Illustrate; 4) Translate into a model (or equation); 5) Complete; 6) Interpret a variety of realistic problems. Increased emphasis on data interpretation, with real data integrated throughout, beginning with an introduction to bar graphs in Section 1.1. With the emphasis on interpreting data via graphs, readers reinforce what they've learned visually and see math's tangibility. Graphing is introduced earlier and developed in-depth in more than one chapter in line with AMATYC and NCTM standards. An early introduction to graphing helps readers see the math in Chapter 3. An emphasis on visualization through graphing is carried throughout; by Chapter 7, readers are ready to master functions and equations of lines.
I was taking begining algebra for the second time this semester. I love this book. In the bookstore, it came bundled with the solution manual and the CDROM lecture series which are a must for anyone that struggles with math or misses a lot of class. I missed a month of class last semester and this semester. What made the difference in being able to pass this semester is this book, the lectures on CDROM by the author and the solution manual. If I had the book I used before last semester, I would have failed again! This book with all the fixings is the BEST.
Very well written

It had been 37 years since I had last worked an algebra problem. This book is very good and I didn't find it difficult to understand or to work the problems.

This book is in great condition For being used, no writting on any pages or the covers, no bent pages, over all in perfect condition, and I am picky on how a book looks. I hardly even used the book because I ordered it and it was the worng book but I looked through it and used it to study until I got the right book.
Great student text

This book supports students by offering examples that are clear and easy to understand. I enjoyed using this text as it offered students the opportunity to successfully solve challenging exercises. Math textbooks are extremely difficult to read and interpret. Martin-Gay took her book to a level of simplicity that most math texts simply don't have.
this is a great book

This book is recommended for any guy looking to be on top of the world of math. The book clearly and completely shows how to go about solving problems. Every problem in the book is solved in the back, step-by-step, not just giving the answers.also, it also covers a wide range of algebraic problems.
