Broken

The book "Broken" is a wonderful true story, my daughter had loaned me her's, after reading it had to buy it to loan to others.

What a heart-wrenching yet marvelous experience it was to read this book. I know of David Briggs and worked with his older brother Billy as a firefighter, but never knew the depth of what those boys experienced growing up. It is truly amazing how they both turned out, especially taking into account that these are only SOME of the events in their lives. What a wonderful example of what the healing balm of the Savior Jesus Christ can do if we but reach out to Him and endure. One can't help but wonder how many other "Briggs boys" there are out there experiencing the same trials just hoping and praying for something, anything that will take it all away. May this be reason enough to share this book with all those around us!! Thank you, David, for sharing these things with us; you will touch many lives with it.

Broken is based on the real life of Mr. David Briggs. It is an account of someone who was severely abused growing up, and yet has been able to find peace and healing through Jesus Christ. I found myself picking up Broken, reading a chapter or two, and then letting the material digest in my mind for a couple of days before starting again. And despite reading about such a disturbing topic as abuse, the author masterfully leaves you with hope. Hope seems to be the central message behind this book. I also found my appreciation for Jesus Christ stronger having read this book. In addition, it opened my eyes more to the ugly reality of what some people have experienced, which, I believe, has helped make me a more empathetic person. There are great lessons in this book. To name just a few: faith, commitment, endurance, love, and of course, hope. This book is very well written and the story is quite engaging. Even though I don't know David Briggs, the author depicted him with such clarity that I feel as though I have known David for a long time. If you have known someone who has dealt with abuse, this book could really help them. The life of Mr. Briggs was "broken", and it was an inspiring story of how Jesus has helped make his life whole.
