This apocalyptic vision, graphically and convincingly realistic, is complemented by an array of strong, compelling characters many of whom are uniquely gifted and tragically flawed. A manned space flight to Mars provides the metaphor; escaping from a desperate reality by diverting attention to an enticing possibility. Martha Nova and her followers introduce the premise and the promise of a Messiah who can create a better place. A wonderful and intelligently crafted yarn.
