Book Overview

""Graf Von Loeben and the Legend of Lorelei"" is a historical fiction novel written by Allen Wilson Porterfield. The story is set in Germany in the early 19th century and follows the adventures of a young aristocrat named Graf Von Loeben. The Graf is a member of a wealthy and powerful family, but he is restless and yearns for adventure. One day, he hears the legend of Lorelei, a beautiful and mysterious siren who lures sailors to their deaths on the Rhine River. Intrigued by the legend, the Graf sets out to find the truth behind it. Along the way, he meets a cast of colorful characters, including a band of gypsies, a mad scientist, and a beautiful young woman who captures his heart. As he delves deeper into the legend of Lorelei, the Graf uncovers a dark conspiracy that threatens his family and his country. With danger lurking at every turn, he must use all of his wit and courage to unravel the mystery and save the day. ""Graf Von Loeben and the Legend of Lorelei"" is a thrilling tale of adventure, romance, and intrigue that will captivate readers of all ages. That this now well-known ballad of the Lorelei was invented by Brentano is proved, not so much by his own statement to that effect as by the fact that the erudite and diligent Grimm brothers, the friends of Brentano, did not include the Lorelei-legend in their collection of 579 Deutsche Sagen, 1816. The name of his heroine Brentano took from the famous echo-rock near St. Goar, with which locality he became thoroughly familiar during the years 1780-89. No romanticist knew the Rhine better or loved it more than Brentano. ""Lore"" means 31] a small, squinting elf; and is connected with the verb ""lauern.""This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
