Oil, Blood & Love--what more could you want in a book?
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
If you're at all interested in the early oil field days, with all its danger, greed and lust, this is the book for you. The story is told with so much realism that it's hard to pull yourself back to the present day. There are surprises and twists that will keep you reading. Another reviewer called this "light" reading. I'd like to clarify that In A Fevered Land is not "fluff." It's not ponderous either, which maybe qualifies it for light reading in that respect. But it's well written & just a darned good book. I'm anxious to read Irene Sandell's new book. Barb B
A Great Texas Western!

I might be a little partial since I'm a Texas girl and loved the bits of history the author provides of the oil field industry in towns I've grown up in, but the story itself is heart-felt and universal. The novel follows the life of Lon Prather, a young man who has decided to stake it out on his own, and the group of friends he meets along the way. It's a story of life choices--good and bad--and the consequences of rebellion--also both good and bad. Plus, there's a wonderful love story to boot. The book will have you page-turning non-stop. I actually finished it in two days, a first for me. It's a light read, but it's packed with adventure and excitement. And you don't have to be a Texan to like it--it's perfect for anyone, and it's got something for everyone, man or woman!
