Issa Samb (*1945) is a Senegalese sculptor, painter, actor, philosopher, performance artist, author, critic, and co-founder of the interdisciplinary initiative, Laboratoire Agit-Art, which has had a decisive influence on the country. The notebook contains drawings, facsimile notes, and a cryptic, elliptical text characteristic of the artist, combining loosely assembled quotations from others, such as the politician Aimé Césaire, with thoughts on the state of the world and Africa in particular. As a collection of real experiences, and the thoughts and feelings that triggered them, the text transcends the boundaries of poetry, pamphlet, novel, and diary, while testifying to the artist's duty to his immediate environment. With an introduction by Koyo Kouoh (*1967), Artistic Director and founder of RAW MATERIAL COMPANY in Dakar, and Agent for dOCUMENTA (13).
