A Journey Led by Truth Mastering the Silence takes you on an enlightening journey that reveals the importance of maintaining your thought life. Using solid biblical examples, Rev. Doug Jones teaches that: Your mind is the primary target of your enemy, the devil. Thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are the enemy's main weapons. God has given you the armor necessary to win the battles within your mind. This illuminating book presents a blueprint for identifying and capturing every thought intended to defeat you. Through his easy-to-understand writing style, Rev. Jones proves once again that when you know the truth, the truth will set you free.
"Mastering the Silence" was recommended to me by two people I greatly trust as Christians. They said it changed their life, so I figured it was worth a read. Good stuff first. The content was great! The basic premise is this: the devil's chief mode of attacking people and getting them to sin is by using thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. We must learn more about God and His Word so that we are able to not only put those thoughts out of our head but destroy the thought by surrounding it with Biblical truth. Rev. Jones gets your attention with perhaps the best interpretation of the Armor of God passage in Ephesians 6 that I have ever read, and goes through the Bible to find numerous instances where the devil has attacked people subtly and dangerously. Pretty glowing, right? So why only four stars? First, for its length and price, there isn't a whole lot of content. This seems like it was a decent-length sermon that was teased into a book; there's lots of repetition. This would have done better as an Internet essay or an audio sermon. It's good that his argument is grounded, but it was definitely dragged out. Even despite the fact that it's drawn out, the it' still a pretty short text, which means that you're paying eight bucks for 12pt font that's really spaced out. I couldn't bring myself to rate this book lower than four stars because the message is really good and if you could take heed to the text and live it out, you'd be just about set as a Christian for life. But since it's a longer form of a shorter message, I'd try to buy used or borrow if I were you.
