What do you say to someone who has known you all your life? What do you say to someone to whom you owe nearly everything? I wanted to include a letter to Mom in my second volume of Never Mind: Letters I Will Never Send, but I found that I had too much to say for just one letter. So this volume is actually a series of letters to my mom, which still doesn't include all that I would like to say to this very special woman. I guess in any relationship, many things are left unsaid. These thoughts and memories, full of gratitude and reflection, are here for those interested in exploring the mother-daughter dynamic and those interested in examining who they are and why. These letters may evoke fond remembrances. They may induce laughter, or heavy sighing, or wonder. Maybe even awe. I enjoyed moving back through my life and thinking about who I am and why. I savored processing all the things that happened to me, how I reacted, and what I learned. Mom and Dad raised four strong, unique individuals, which is a testament to their exceptional ability to encourage and support each of our separate paths. As I wrote this, it became more and more evident that the more I try to understand Mom, the closer I come to understanding myself and the path that I am on.
