Rennais and Erri have left the picturesque Scottish town of Nairnshire for a tropical home on a private island. It is an island that has belonged to the Selkies (descendants of the Lost City of Atlantis) for centuries. A misty shroud that defies radar surrounds it so that it cannot be found on any map nor seen from an aerial view, and finally Rennais feels that she, her Selkie lover, and their children will be safe. Fate has other plans. In the aftermath of a colossal storm, survivors of a shipwreck wash up on shore, and the population is apprehensive. In the midst of this unexpected turmoil, Erri goes out diving for treasure one day and vanishes.
