Female NYPD trainee Julian Palmer has come to a frigid corner of Upstate New York to work alongside legendary police chief Winston "Bear" Edwards-to help solve the brutal murder of a young waitress, and perhaps learn a thing or two along the way. Jillian knows that Edwards, an Old School cop if there ever were one, isn't happy about a female rookie assisting him-or the strange local psychic they've called in to help. Still, she's a bit in awe of the old Bear-he has, after all, solved every murder case he's ever worked on. Except this one. Now, as Julian and Edwards investigate, they are thrust into a labyrinthine mystery, where endless twists and turns keep the case as compelling as it is elusive. And as the snow continues to fall on rural New York, hiding everything beneath a glistening white blanket, it might also cover up the only thing that will solve this case: "The Cold Truth...
A very quick read that keeps you guessing. I couldn't put it down.
Five stars aren't enough!

Make sure you start this book early in the day, because once you get on this roller coaster you can't get off. Not that you'd want to. This is a white-knuckle thrill ride that captures you from the first word on (a most original first word, at that). The characters stayed with me long after I finished the book. And the plot ... incredible! I'm still playing the twists over and over in my mind, wondering why I didn't see them coming (I guess that's why it's called a mystery). Surprises around every corner. Powerful drama. Endless suspense. Here's the cold truth on "The Cold Truth": Read it!!
Best Mystery of the Year

I had this one figured out halfway through. (Yeah, right.) I changed my mind. I changed it again and then again. With 50 pages to go there were probably five plausible murder suspects. With 10 to go bullets are flying, people are chasing people, the good guys are bad, the bad guys are good and you still don't trust your instincts. Well done, Stone. P.S. The movie: larger than life George C. Scott and Sandra Bullock. (Julia Roberts isn't tough enough.)
WOW!! What a ride! I couldn't read fast enough!

Look up the word "suspense" in Webster's...there must be mention of "The Cold Truth". I could not put it down. My wife and children lost me for the weekend as my brain and adrenaline (and that of the fascinating cast characters) raced to keep up with the very smart twists and turns--right to the end. The setting is a small town in upstate New York, and the weather is cold, but the story and the way it is told are hot! I hope Jonathan Stone has energy left in his pen (or PC) to give the world another. I rate this very high--a solid ten.
THE COLD TRUTH is a brilliant debut novel

Set in the cold environs of Upstate New York, THE COLD TRUTH does not disappoint. This book continually twists and turns. Jonathan Stone has written a thriller that not only keeps you turning the pages at an alarmingly fast rate, but he keeps you guessing until the very end. I can't express enough how this book just grabs you from page one and takes you on a ride through the cold snow, the well-written characters and the elaborate plot to a conclusion that will shock you.
