Book Overview

Human colonists defend their planet from terrifyingly advanced assassins in this tale of fast-paced action and political intrigue.

This is the third novel from award-winning novelist Christopher Hinz. Beginning where the critically acclaimed Liege-Killer and Ash Ock ended, The Paratwa chronicles the lives of the Irryan colonists as they prepare for the imminent attack of the fierce and vicious Paratwa assassins. Facing the threat of their dark enemies, Gillian must also cope with his inner turmoil, as the madness of his nature threatens to consume his life. He discovers that he is a genetically modified creature whose purpose is to serve the needs of others, and the course of his destiny is not in his own hands.

Conclusion To Story Started in Ash Ock

Most of the reviews have explained some of the plot, so I won't rehash that. What I will try to do is explain why you should or shouldn't buy this, whether you'll like this or not. First, if you're reading this review, you've probably read Liege-Killer (the first book) and continued on to Ash Ock (the second book). Even though Liege-Killer was a book that can stand on its own, and the story has a satisfying ending, the Ash Ock book is the 1st part of a 2 part story that ends in Paratwa. Ash Ock ends abruptly in the middle of a story and Paratwa continues right where Ash Ock ends and ends the 2 part story in a nice conclusion. So get both, or you'll be kicking yourself after you finish Ash Ock and you'll be wondering what happens in the next hour in the story. Now the question is, are Ash Ock and Paratwa worth reading if you like Liege-Killer? The answer is a resounding yes. There's more of what made Liege-Killer a great read, with major events and conspiracies, whose resolution will change the fate of all the major characters and the fate of the human colonies. Almost all the major questions and secrets that were hinted at in Liege-Killer and Ash Ock are revealed, all the plot twists are untied and almost everything is explained in Paratwa. The major conflicts do come to their satisfying conclusion. Unlike a lot of trilogies, this one doesn't disapoint, and doesn't leave you hanging. It's definitely worth reading to the end. Don't get off the roller coaster early, because the best part of the ride is near the end. Enjoy the ride.

Crazy Ending

The series overall is one of the best I have read. This series has made a home in my permanent collection! This book stuggled a bit to wrap it all up but I do like how we finally got to see the "real" enemy.

Great finish of a fabulous trilogy!

Hinz wraps up the trilogy with a major chord! Fascinating finish, probably the best action Sci-Fi book I have read in my life! My favorite book in the paratwa saga.

Great!

I am not going to write a overly long, or winded reason why I liked this book. Well, loved it. This series was simply one of the BEST I have read, and I enjoyed in immensely. I have nothing but fond memories of it.

Good story with OK ending.

This book is the third of a trilogy, and the story is good, solid, and consistent until the ending. I did not find the ending disappointing per se; it just seemed to me that the ending was just a continuation of what was going on in the story. It did not change pitch at all, i.e. it did not get any more or less intense. It just seemed to end, but not like cyberpunk stories just end, where the characters just get on with their lives. The ending just had no impact on me what so ever. There was no big climax or let down. It bothered me that I went through all of this great story to just have a mediocre trilogy ending
