Michael Orenstein has written one of the best student friendly textbooks for introductory sociology. His motivation of presenting "sociology as it is" has led to a work that truly wins over students to study more sociology. Orenstein views sociology as a quest for increasing one's awareness of the social world and for discovering the nature of human interaction.Having taught introductory students for twelve years, I choose Orenstein's work whenever I am asked to pick a text for a beginning course in sociology.
