What I Learned From Dying

"What I Learned From Dying" is a collection of columns written by a remarkable human during an extraordinary time. Dave Taylor was, by all accounts, in the prime of his life at only forty-five years old. He'd just met his truelove, Jamie, and they were excited for all life ahead offered. In November of 2020, Dave and Jamie contracted COVID-19. Jamie got through it easily, but Dave became very ill, including one very odd symptom.....hiccups. Dave never fully recovered from COVID, and was deemed a "long hauler". He became increasingly weaker, began having trouble swallowing, and subsequently lost a significant amount of weight rapidly. In May of 2021, Dave was diagnosed with Stage Four Esophageal Cancer. This book encompasses all of the weekly columns he authored detailing his experience, as published in the Hancock Clarion, where he was the Editor. His only wish was to share his journey with the community he had grown up in, and had chronicled the events of for many years. His weekly columns quickly spread on social media beyond the borders of his beloved home county, to the point of being featured in a nationally syndicated news story. The book concludes with a personal chapter written by his widow about the last weekend of his life and all they experienced from her perspective. While cancer ravaged his body, his soul remained fully intact, and in the loving hands of our one and only savior, Jesus Christ.
